OUR STRATEGY, OBJECTIVES AND PRIORITIES FOR ERASMUS ACTIVITIES
Activity in international dimension, with close connections with both European and global education and research area, with highly developed international contacts, participation in prestigious international programs and projects, cooperation with international academic and research institutions is one of our university's strategic goals.
In the field of education and science, our objective is internationalization of studies and scientific research through widely spread international cooperation and high rate of staff and students' mobility.
- We intend to develop multilateral staff exchange. At least 5% of our university's teaching offer should be supplied by visiting lecturers. We are willing to extend students' exchange organized in the frame of bilateral agreements. Each year, at least 10% of our students should complete a part of their studies or placements abroad. We therefore increase our activity in gaining new partners. The amount of foreign students at Wroclaw University of Economics should be approaching the amount of outgoing students. This goal is to achieve provided that we launch a developed offer of lectures run in foreign languages, which, as accessible also for our students, can also be a motivation to relocate. Our university put emphasis on teaching of foreign languages (every student is obliged to study intensively two foreign languages, English as one of them). We also run Polish language, culture and civilization courses for incoming students.
- Finally, we plan to enlarge our participation in multilateral projects aiming at development of new curricula, cooperation with enterprises as well as projects connected to e-learning. Our rich experience in this domain covers among others running a number of post-diploma studies, long-term cooperation with the business sector, setting up a Forum of Economic Knowledge and launching an Open University of Economics portal at http://www.wiedzainfo.pl.
A gender equality policy is reflected in a fact that women constitute 70% of academic staff, 70% of students, a vast majority of administrative staff, and frequently held managerial positions on the central, faculty and departmental level. Our university invites students not only from Europe, but from Asia and Africa, their developing countries as well. The students are fully integrated into student society. There were never recorded any acts of racism or xenophobia towards students of foreign origin.
Our institution strives to facilitate the integration of disabled people studying or working at the university through eliminating architectural barriers and running rehabilitation courses at the Centre for Physical Education and Sport.
HOW DO WE ENSURE HIGH QUALITY IN ACADEMIC MOBILITY ACTIVITIES
Recognition and credit systems: ECTS system is applied to credit transfer, ready to introduce as a system of accumulation of students' achievements. Before the student’s departure, departmental ECTS coordinators draw up a plan of completion of the courses, together with the student. The courses completed abroad are fully recognized.Provision of information on curricula: ECTS Information Package with detailed offer of courses run in foreign languages is issued every year. The information can also be found on the website. Information and counselling of outgoing students: A list of partner universities, rules of procedure - recruitment requirements, selection criteria are published every year in the form of a brochure and on the website. The student can obtain all the necessary information on Partner University from the academic contact person responsible for a given bilateral agreement. Students are also informed on the documentation required for recognition of the study period and can count on the help of International Relations Office in case of any problems during their stay abroad.
Tutoring and integration of incoming students: Foreign students are offered a rich integration programme, including participation in cultural and social events, excursions etc. A Polish student is in touch with the incoming student. ECTS Coordinator takes care of the educational process.Provision of student services: Accommodation in dormitories is provided for all incoming students. A sport centre, library, computer laboratories and medical centre are situated within a compact campus.
Language courses: Foreign Languages Centre offers courses of English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Japanese and Russian, all levels from beginner to advanced, including specialized courses of business language. The students are obliged to study 2 languages; one of them must be English. Polish language, culture and civilization course is offered for incoming students, free of charge, lasting the whole period of student's stay. Regular foreign language courses are also provided for administrative and academic staff.
Support and acknowledgement of staff mobility: International Relations Office provides full support. Our university covers all cost exceeding the allowed Erasmus limits.
HOW DO WE ENSURE QUALITY OF STUDENT PLACEMENT ACTIVITIES
Wroclaw University of Economics is a recognized and dynamic scientific and research centre with long tradition of cooperation with the business sector. Contacts with business environment are involved in the teaching process in form of agreements with enterprises hosting our students and graduates for placements and internships. Counsellors from university's Bureau for Career and Professional Promotion help students prepare to enter the labour market effectively, identify their professional and personal potential, plan their career track and complete application documents.
Students' qualification for placements in the Erasmus programme is made every year together with the recruitment for student mobility.
Recruited students prepare, in cooperation with their academic tutor and the hosting institution, an individual plan of placement implementation corresponding to their specific needs.
Operational control of the placement is carried out halfway and at the end of placement period. Thus, it is a duty of the hosting institution to send a short standardized report to the university, containing information on tasks completed by the student in a given period, benefits gained by the institution and skills acquired by the student. A final report should in addition comprise an evaluation of the whole placement, indicating mutual benefits, and remarks or comments for the future. Student returning from a placement fills in a questionnaire concerning organization and realization of the placement, benefits drawn by himself, level of fulfillment of his expectations, institution's personnel engagement and possible suggestions for the future.
Monitoring of student's placement is run by the International Relations Office staff in administrative section, and by the academic tutor with issues relating to the teaching process. A certificate issued in order to acknowledge the completion of placement is a basis of its recognition in the curriculum.
