In memory of Paweł Adamowicz - the Mayor of Gdańsk

The academic community of Wrocław University of Economics with sadness and disbelief received the news of the assassination of the Mayor of Gdańsk, Paweł Adamowicz. We join in pain and prayer with the family of the Mayor and all those whom this senseless death has touched.

We declare that we strongly reject hate speech in public space and ask all participants of social dialogue, both politicians and journalists and ordinary Internet users, to abandon the language that divides, stigmatizes, offends and humiliates. A language that ruins basic social bonds, built on the basis of mutual respect and trust. For once again, we are painfully convinced of the great power of the word, and the bad word that provokes evil deeds. Although we believe that good will win the evil, especially the ominous symbolism takes on the murder of the President, made when - along with millions of people - he shared symbolically goodness and love during the finale of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity.

It is up to all of us whether we will come out of this test richer for this good social capital, which will help us to rebuild social ties, torn up in recent years, and without which there can be no talk of any community. Tempus fugit...
