The Board of Regional Economy and Tourism Department in Jelenia Góra by the Wrocław University of Economics appointed a committee for initiation of the conferment procedure for honorary title of doctor of Wrocław University of Economics to the benefit of professor Hiroyuki Itami.

The Board of Regional Economy and Tourism Department in Jelenia Góra by the Wrocław University of Economics passed a decision to initiate qualifying procedure for conferment of honorary title of doctor of Wrocław University of Economics to the benefit of professor Hiroyuki Itami. The honor of reviewing the scientific achievements of the esteemed Candidate was passed to professor Stanisław Kiełczewski and professor Andrzej Koźmiński.

The Senate of Wrocław University of Economics, after examination of the motion put forward by the Board of Regional Economy and Tourism Department in Jelenia Góra, passed a decision to confer a honorary title of doctor of Wrocław University of Economics to the benefit of professor Hiroyuki Itami, appointing professor Jarosław Witkowski as promoter of the conferment proceedings.


CURRICULUM VITAE
Professor Hiroyuki Itami was born on March 16, 1945 in Tokyo. His didactic and scientific career is linked with the Hitotsubashi University in Tokyo, where he commenced his studies at Trade Department, receiving bachelor degree in 1967 and master degree in 1969. In 1972, following a Fullbright scholarship, he gained a doctorate at Industrial Administration Department of Carnegie-Mellon University in the United States. Professor Hiroyuki Itami is not only an active scholar and renowned contributor in the academic field, but also a distinguished educator and organizer. In the years 1973-2008, as a lecturer at the Hitotsubashi University in Tokyo, he worked his way up through all steps of didactic ladder to the most prestigious rank of Dean at the oldest department of Trade, which he performed between 1994 and 1996. He was also a visiting professor at the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University in the academic years of 1975/1976 and 1982/1983. From 2008 Professor Itami has been a Dean at Graduate School of Management of Technology and Science of Tokyo University of Science.
On numerous occasions throughout his academic career, Professor Itami has performed honorable public duties. He has also been invited to provide organizational and advisory services for both public organizations and corporate bodies. He is a member and a chairman of various committees by the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and Ministry of Education (Monbusho). In recognition of his scientific achievements and socio-economic activities, Professor Itami received numerous prizes and awards. He was twice nominated the best author of management and economics publications in Japan (in 1978 and 1981). In 2005, he was awarded the National Purple Medal of Honor by His Majesty the Emperor of Japan. A true crown of his career is the nomination for the honorable duty of Emperor Lecturer at the Emperor Court in 2009.
