The Council of the Faculty of Management, Computer Science and Finance of Wrocław University of Economics passes a resolution on initiating the proceedings for awarding the degree of Doctor Honoris Causa of the Wrocław University of Economics to Professor Herbert Wirth, Ph.D. The Council appoints as reviewers of the academic achievements of the Doctoral Candidate Prof. Witold Jurek, Ph.D. from the Poznań University of Economics and Business and Professor Antoni Tajduś, Ph.D. from AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow. Prof. Jarosław Witkowski, doctor habilitatus, from the Wrocław University of Economics was appointed as the research supervisor.

The Senate of Wrocław University of Economics, having reviewed the motion submitted by the Council of the Faculty of Management, Computer Science and Finance, passes a resolution to award the degree of Doctor Honoris Causa of the Wrocław University of Economics to Professor Herbert Wirth, Ph.D.

CURRICULUM VITAE
Herbert Wilhelm Wirth was born on December 3, 1956 in Żarów. He is a graduate of the Geology and Exploration Faculty of the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow. He obtained the master's degree in geology of ore deposits and mathematical geology, geostatistics in 1981. After graduation, he became a member of the team, then an independent geologist and deputy head of the Geological Enterprise, Wrocław branch. In 1990 he began working as a teacher of mathematics and German at the Primary School No. 37 in Wrocław. Gaining experience in the field of deposit geology and learning the latest methods of conducting pro-export and exploratory work enabled him to work as a geologist of the designer in G.E.O.S. GmbH Freiberg in Germany, where he began his scientific and research activity. In the years 1993-1998 he worked as a director in the proGEO sp. Z o.o. in Wrocław, gaining wide experience in the field of environmental protection. From 1998 to 2002 he led the work of the Department of Geological Studies and Analyzes of the Copper Research and Development Center in Wrocław.
In July 2001, he defended his doctoral dissertation "Method of assessing the effectiveness of capital investments in geological and mining projects on domestic and foreign markets in the non-ferrous metals sector" at the Mining Faculty of the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow, obtaining the title of doctor of technical sciences. His promoter was prof. dr hab. Eng. Czesław Cyrnek from AGH in Krakow, and the reviewers of the doctoral dissertation were prof. dr hab. Eng. Mieczysław Jawień from AGH in Krakow and prof. dr hab. Eng. Konrad Wanielista from the Institute for Mineral Resources and Energy, Polish Academy of Sciences in Krakow.
In 2002, Herbert Wilhelm Wirth joined KGHM Polska Miedź SA as the director of the Department of New Ventures and Project Management. On March 17, 2006, he was appointed the vice-president of the Management Board of KGHM Cuprum, and then on 23 April 2008 - for the first vice-president of the Management Board of KGHM Polska Miedź SA with headquarters in Lubin, where (from June 16, 2009 to the present) he is the president.
Based on the assessment of the scientific achievements and the postdoctoral thesis entitled "Multifactorial valuation of deposits and their resources on the example of non-ferrous metals industry", he obtained the postdoctoral degree of technical sciences in the field of mining and engineering geology in the specialty of mining organization and economics, granted by the Council of the Geoengineering, Mining and Geology of the Wrocław University of Technology of 28 March 2012.
Dr hab. Eng. Herbert Wilhelm Wirth, prof. PWr is the author and co-author of many publications in the field of deposit geology, mathematical geology, geochemistry and ecology. The results of his work are included in the reports and presented at seminars and symposia. He participated in numerous international research projects. He also conducts scientific activities in the form of classes for engineering and technical staff at many technical and economic universities.
In June 2013, he was honored with the title of doctor honoris causa of the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow. He is a member of honor convents, including AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków, Wrocław University of Technology, Wrocław University of Economics and Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences. He actively works in the Association of Mining Engineers and Technicians. Since 2011 he has been a member of The Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA) and a member of the Mining Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
